Master's of Science

MSc IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY*

Provides the theoretical and practical knowledge on analytical instrumentation for training professionals and researchers, with a profile applied to research and development of products, processes and services in the industrial fields related to analytical chemistry. The master’s degree conveys advanced knowledge on the different disciplines of analytical chemistry, enabling students to identify and reason problems, develop and apply original ideas and integrate new knowledge throughout their professional career.

The Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry provides a comprehensive and global focus on the analytical process (advances in analytical chemistry, identification and structural characterization). It also broadens knowledge on the different product matrices to which analytical processes can be applied. Accordingly, we work with matrices from agrarian, food and pharmaceutical origins, as well as providing in-depth studies on the contribution of analytical chemistry to the conservation and improvement of the environment.

MSc IN PHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY*

This master’s degree provides a general overview of the entire R&D process of a drug, its design stage by computational chemistry (molecular design) and synthesis (advanced organic synthesis). Through optional subjects, students can complement their training in therapeutic aspects (pharmacology, photochemistry and photobiology) or productive aspects (in the pharmaceutical industry).

The studies comprise the following modules: fundamental (expansion of the knowledge on structural characterization and identification and quantification of chemical substances), management (knowledge of techniques for managing scientific projects, technological innovation process and quality management and assurance), specialization (design and molecular synthesis), and a final master’s project.

MSc IN MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING*

Focused on knowledge of the structure-properties relationship in materials, in order to synthesize and design new materials with specific properties. Students will learn how the development of new materials is related to technical advances (advanced materials), how the structure can be characterized (characterization of materials) and how it can be modified. The various contents comprised in the program introduce students to the field of nanostructured materials and their technological applications. Laboratory practice and experimental work make up almost 50% of the credits, and some of the subjects are taught in English.

MSc IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Provides knowledge on the design, management and control of the chemical and biotechnological production processes used in industrial processing plants. The master’s degree provides tools for the development, search and preparation of products, processes and services, as well as for industrial management and cost optimization, excelling in the application of techniques, even in fields that are bordering on engineering, such as biotechnology or nanotechnology. Students will develop their skills along three profiles: professional, entrepreneur and researcher. The program is structured around a project for an industrial installation and it provides the skills for taking over jobs in general and technical management.

MSc IN BIOENGINEERING

It trains future high-level research and innovation professionals in the industrial, food or biomedical production fields. The program includes technological profile content such as bioreactors and bioprocesses, biocomputing, design and simulation of bioprocesses and industrial microbiology. It also includes scientific content such as tissue engineering, biomaterials, genomics and proteomics applications, which are used in the most active and influential fields of research. The master’s degree is based on a close relationship with the industrial sector that is materialized in the participation of scientists from different companies in the Faculty Meetings, as well as the possibility of working on all or part of the dissertation within the companies.

MSc IN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING

The purpose of this master’s degree is to train the professionals with the capacities to exercise the industrial engineering profession, pursuant to its legal regulations. Among the skills to be acquired are the project, calculation, design, research, innovation and development of industrial products, processes, installations and plants. The professionals will also be qualified for strategic planning applied to construction and production systems, to environmental quality and management, technical and financial management of projects and the performance of general and technical management jobs.

During the master’s degree, students will develop professional (preparation for industrial engineering careers), business (focused towards the creation and management of technologically based companies) and research competencies. Graduates will be able to innovate, research and develop their career in a multilingual environment, in companies, research centers and technological centers.
