Welcome of the Board Chairman

I welcome you to our web site on behalf of IQS university community. I hope you will find here the information that interests you: our model of education, our history, our organisation and the studies we offer, our lines of research, services for industry, and the projects in which we are involved.

IQS was born in Roquetas, near Tortosa, in 1905 with the name of “Laboratorio Químico del Ebro”; its founder was the Jesuit Father Eduardo Vitoria. The purpose of this Institution was to deepen in the field of chemistry with the aim of creating bridges of dialogue between the positive science and the Christian humanism, that at those moments seemed incompatible.

With the same purpose but extending the university scope, the laboratory was transferred in 1916 to Sarrià (Barcelona) and took on the name of “Instituto Químico de Sarrià” (IQS). Its educational and research activity was focused increasingly towards the service to the society, collaborating in the resolution of the problems that arose in industry.

In 1991, IQS took part, as a founding member, in the establishment of Ramon Llull University (URL), of Christian inspiration. Our Institute meanwhile also began diversifying its field of studies and set up a Faculty of Economics. In 2000, diversification continued with the incorporation of a degree in Industrial Engineering, that IQS had already taught 40 years before.

In our philosophy always we wanted to conjugate the educative experience of the Society of Jesus secular tradition with the ongoing modernisation required by social changes. Our educative proposal is characterised by academic rigour, tailored attention to the students, and an advanced social conscience.

Our IQS, within the URL, wishes to contribute, on the basis of a Christian humanism, of scientific and technological innovation and of critical awareness, to the attainment by our society of sustainable development, with a just distribution of assets that will prompt a genuine peace for the humanity.

IQS, CETS FUNDACIÓ PRIVADA, a Spanish foundation, with registration number CIF G-58022849 and legal address at C/ Via Augusta 390, 08017 Barcelona, inscribed in the Registry of Foundations of the Generalitat de Catalunya (autonomous government) on the 18 September 1984, with number 88, informs the users of the Internet pages owned by IQS, CETS FUNDACIÓ PRIVADA of the conditions for their access and use.

In general any type of activity is prohibited that damages IQS, CETS FUNDACIÓ PRIVADA or third parties.

RENUNCIATION AND LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY:
IQS, CETS FUNDACIÓ PRIVADA will not be liable for the information, services and/or products offered and/or provided by third parties through the web pages of IQS, CETS FUNDACIÓ PRIVADA, or the contents provided by third parties. IQS, CETS FUNDACIÓ PRIVADA is not liable for any damages caused to the software or hardware of the user that derives from the access to the web pages of IQS, CETS FUNDACIÓ PRIVADA or from the use of information or applications contained in it.

IQS, CETS FUNDACIÓ PRIVADA does not guarantee the suitability, reliability, availability, appropriateness or accuracy of information or services contained in its web page, nor is it liable for direct or indirect damage in relation to the use of the contents of its web pages.
