Objectives of the undergraduate program

The aim of an Undergraduate Program in Industrial Engineering Technology, official qualification within the framework of the EHEA (European Higher Education Area), is for students to acquire knowledge in all industrial technologies by means of a solid education in both basic concepts and applications of all the branches of engineering. Students will receive a practical view of the trends in industrial technology as well as the necessary training to work as a responsible engineer with a strong sense of ethics and awareness of the impact your activity leverages on the environment, society and economic development.

As a graduate in Industrial Engineering Technology you will have access to the professional responsibilities of an industrial engineer after studying a master's degree in Industrial Engineering Technology.

You will practice English since it is used transversaly in all subjects of the curriculum. In the fifth semester (third year) one of the courses evaluates students' level of this language.

The Educational Objectives of the Industrial Engineering Program are:

To prepare graduates who:
  1. Can apply their knowledge of basic sciences (mathematics, statistics, physics and chemistry) to the practice of Industrial Engineering.
  2. Use the fundaments of Industrial Engineering in the research, design, development and application of new products and processes in a wide range of business sectors.
  3. Can communicate technical information in a fashion that can be understood by audiences of all kinds, working in teams including those comprising professionals from different business fields and incorporate new technologies in the field of Industrial Engineering into their professional activities.
  4. Practice their profession as Industrial Engineers in responsible manner, with a deeply-held sense of ethics regarding the environment and a proper understanding of the impact of their work on the social and economic development of the country.
  5. Are conscious of the need for life-long learning for their proper professional development.


Skills to be acquired

The qualification of the Undergraduate Program in Industrial Engineering Technology includes the entry requirements of a master's degree in Industrial Engineering, associated with the profession of industrial engineer described in section 4.2.2 of Ministerial order CIN/311/2009, of 9 February regarding the guidelines of the master's degree (Ministerial order CIN/351/2009). It produces well-rounded professionals capable of handling numerous tasks in the field of industrial engineering.
A degree in Industrial Engineering Technology will help students acquire the following skills:
  • Understanding and applying scientific knowledge (mathematics, physics and chemistry) and basic technical knowledge (information technology, graphic expression, mechanics, electricity and materials) necessary for the practice of industrial engineering
  • Problem-solving, decision-making, creativity and critical thinking
  • Developing, programming and applying analytical and numerical methods to elaborate mathematical models in the field of industrial engineering
  • Carrying out measurements, calculations, evaluations, assessments, advanced reports, research studies, work plans and other similar tasks
  • Developing components, systems, processes and experiments to obtain the requirements established
  • Carrying out projects in the field of industrial engineering
Students will also be able to:
  • Communicate efficiently, both orally and in writing and transmit knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of industrial engineering
  • Organize and plan in companies and other institutions and organizations
  • Assess the negative impacts resulting from deficient application of industrial engineering to better understand the importance of this field regarding society, economy and sustainability
  • Analyze and appreciate the societal and environmental impact of technical solutions
Students will acquire knowledge in the fields of mechanical, electrical and energy engineering, systems and construction of materials, chemistry, design and production, environment, organization and management of projects and companies. This knowledge, in addition to acquiring cross-curricular skills, is designed to form well-rounded professionals with an ethical commitment to society. Students will be able to solve and promote technological challenges in the industrial sector, both in big companies and in small and medium-sized businesses.
