Teresa Roig

Account Manager at The Hotels Network

Alumna of the Undergraduate Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management

My career path

I did several internships in hotels throughout my studies. In my 4th year, I did an internship in the Finance Department at The Ritz-Carlton Dubai DIFC. It was easily one of the best experiences in my life! At the end of my undergraduate studies, I did the Master's Degree in Hotel Management at HTSI, with management internships at the ME Ibiza hotel. Thanks to these internships, I got a job in the same hotel as the MICE Coordinator (Groups, Incentives, Conferences, and Events) in the Sales Department. Later, I started working as a Client Success Specialist (Account Manager) at The Hotels Network, where I still work today. The company is a technology business whose mission is to increase the conversion rate from the direct channels of hotels.

Why did you study tourism?

I decided to study the Undergraduate Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management because I wanted direct specialization in a successful sector that is crucial to the both the Spanish and the global economy that provides countless options and professional opportunities. Languages and travel have always been part of my DNA, so that also contributed to my choice.

What stands out most about your studies at HTSI?

HTSI regularly draws on experience from the sector thanks to the close relationships it maintains with companies and professionals in the industry, enabling it to be at the forefront in terms of academic offerings.

What would you say to current students?

If you have the opportunity, I highly recommended doing an internship abroad. This gives you the chance to grow not only professionally but also personally. In addition, the tourism sector has a wide variety of career possibilities. I would recommend not narrowing your view to a specific area or type of company, but exploring various options that will allow you to enrich yourself as a professional.

Iratxe López

National Events Manager at Pangea the Travel Store

Alumna of the Undergraduate Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management

My career path

I have always tried to combine my passion for tourism, culture, leisure, and events with my interest in communications and public relations. I've worked in production for a television channel, organized programming for events at the La Pedrera-Casa Milà, and managed event spaces at the incredible Moritz Factory, where we were able to organize more than 250 events in a single year. Now I'm in charge of the National Events Department at Pangea The Travel Store, the largest travel agency in the world, where passion, excellence, and commitment are the success factors for this startup. I consider myself truly fortunate!

Why did you study tourism?

No hi ha res en el món que em faci més feliç que reunir persones, i vaig pensar que estudiant turisme, podria arribar a organitzar fires, congressos i esdeveniments a tot el món.

What stands out most about your studies at HTSI?

The approachability and dedication of the professors. The excellent relationships between professors and students are hard to find at other universities.

What would you say to current students?

I would tell them to take the opportunity to think outside the box and take on the challenge of tackling new projects as there are so many things that can be done. Generation Z is growing and becoming stronger. Everyone is good at something, you just have to find out what and go for it! You can become an entrepreneur on your own, within a company, or even as part of a university course. Dare to try out something new!

Guille García

Senior Software Product Manager at ReviewPro

Alumnus of the Undergraduate Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management

My career path

I graduated with the degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management six years ago and I’ve been working at ReviewPro ever since. I started out by doing a six-month internship as a Junior Account Manager for the British market then went on to get a permanent contract. After two years working here and thanks to my knowledge of the sector and familiarity with the application, ReviewPro gave me the opportunity to change departments and start working in the Product Department. Right away, I began working hand-in-hand with software engineers even though I had no prior technological knowledge. Now I'm directly responsible for a team of three people and I also manage new developments, from ideas to final products.

Why did you study tourism?

I wanted to meet people, discover new cultures, and travel the world. That said, I didn't at all expect to end up working in technology applied to the hospitality sector.

What stands out most about your studies at HTSI?

Most of all, the ease with which students enter the workforce. If it weren't for HTSI, I'm certain that my career path wouldn't be the same today. I'm sure it wouldn't be anything like where I am now. My willingness to live and work in London and Amsterdam when I was just 22 years old was without a doubt one of the reasons why ReviewPro decided to hire me. Not everyone has these opportunities at such a young age. Add that to the enthusiasm and knowledge of the sector that you gain at HTSI, and you have the perfect recipe to succeed without even having the time to wonder how everything happened so quickly.

What would you say to current students?

There is a cliché about career success involving the connections you make, but it's true. Whatever or whoever is recommended tends to be the first option and that happens with everything in life. My advice is clear and very much in line with what I said earlier. The opportunity you get from studying at HTSI is becoming recognized without having previously demonstrated anything. Thanks to that, you'll have a huge range of opportunities you can build upon. The hardest thing is getting started, but HTSI makes it easy for you. Take advantage of it!
