Flow Chemistry Unit

The Flow Chemistry Unit includes a pilot plant and laboratory equipment for carrying out flow chemistry reactions aimed at the development and industrial scale-up of fine chemistry processes. It carries out research and technology transfer activities for companies in the pharmaceutical and fine chemistry sectors. It has a team of professors and researchers with solid experience in the industrial environment.

Bioprocess Pilot Plant

Bioprocessing infrastructure and equipment for the development, optimisation, scale-up and manufacturing of test batches. Suitable for microorganisms cultures (bacteria, yeasts and fungi) in batch and fed-batch and in aerobic or anaerobic conditions. Class 1 organisms (non-pathogenic). Includes downstream operations for the first stages of bioproduct isolation.

Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Unit

Unit comprising different laboratories for advanced research and technology transfer activities mainly related to polymeric materials, biomaterials, ceramic materials and graphene. It includes special areas for microscopes and image analysis, equipment for materials characterisation and laboratories for vascular engineering and biomaterials.

IQS-SCIEX Demo Lab

Laboratory arising from the collaboration between SCIEX and IQS to promote research in chemical analysis techniques based on high resolution mass spectrometry. This partnership makes the availability of powerful new generation equipment possible in a university environment where research promotes the study of the analytical techniques and their application in industrial environments such as chemistry, biopharma, biotechnology, and proteomics. The cooperation between both entities includes the joint work between SCIEX experts and IQS professors and researchers.

Neuro & Digital Marketing Lab IQS

The laboratory is dedicated to objectively investigate consumer behaviour to develop products and services adapted to their needs. Through the complete iMOTIONS platform we can objectively measure emotional and cognitive responses of individuals to different types of stimuli.

Chromatography Laboratory

Laboratory dedicated to the development and optimisation of analysis methods based on chromatographic techniques. Also dedicated to method validation, transfer and analysis of chemical products in general. It has consolidated experience in the chromatographic analysis of a wide range of matrices, from pharmaceuticals to environmental pollutants.

Metal Analysis Laboratory

Laboratory specialised in the analysis of metallic impurities in pharmaceutical products and other matrices, using atomic absorption spectrometry, atomic emission spectrophotometry and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry techniques. It has consolidated experience in carrying out analytical studies for pharmaceutical companies sector in a GMP environment.

Environmental Laboratory

Laboratory specialised in the analysis of dioxins and other persistent organic pollutants in environmental matrices (atmospheric emissions and immissions, water, ash, waste, soil, etc.) as well as in products for human and animal food. Accredited by ENAC according to UNE EN ISO 17025.

Laboratory of Circular Economy and Sustainability

Laboratory dedicated to promoting process integration (reaction-separation) and research into new technologies for the recovery and recycling of gaseous and aqueous effluents, as well as solid waste. The laboratory also has a unit to analyze the sustainability of processes both in the chemical industry and in the water treatment industry through process simulators and life cycle assessment software. It has a consolidated experience in the field of recovery and reuse of greenhouse gases (CO₂, fluorinated gases), water regeneration (through adsorption processes, advanced oxidation processes and membranes) and valorization of solid waste (bioplastics, determination of persistent pollutants).

Electrochemical Laboratory

Laboratory dedicated to the study of corrosion phenomena on materials in industrial plants and to the development of chemical cleaning processes. The nature and chemical composition of inorganic materials is studied by electron microscopy with microanalysis. Electrochemical analysis techniques are also used.

Photochemistry Laboratory

It focuses its research activity on photochemistry and the interrelationships of light with molecules, materials and biological systems. It carries out RDI activities and knowledge and technology transfer in solar photoprotection, cancer photochemotherapy, photoantimicrobial therapies and fluorescence imaging.

Spectroscopy Laboratory

Application of spectroscopic techniques for qualitative analysis of substances. Development of studies for structural elucidation, organic elemental analysis, optical rotation, etc.

Biochemistry Laboratory

The Biochemistry Laboratory focuses its research on Carbohydrate Active Enzymes (CAZymes) involved in the biosynthesis, modification and degradation of glycans and glycoconjugates, from fundamental aspects of their mechanism, specificity and regulation to their applications in biocatalysis, synthetic biology and as therapeutic targets in infectious diseases.

Thermal Analysis Laboratory

Laboratory in the field of chemical engineering focused on the thermal characterisation of chemical substances or mixtures. It covers activities related to the thermal safety of chemical processes, industrial safety, simulation and optimisation of chemical processes and the performance of thermal analysis and calorimetry.

Biotherapies Laboratory
