Enrolment period and procedure

Once the admissions process has been completed, the Director of IQS holds a welcome interview with every future doctoral student. Admitted candidates have the remainder of the academic year to formalise their enrolment with the IQS Registrar, at which time they take on the status of PhD student. Otherwise, candidates must reapply for admission with the Doctoral Programme Academic Committee. Enrolment take place during the month of October at the beginning of each academic year.

Additional coursework

The PhD in Bioengineering programme does not include additional coursework for students accepted to the programme who hold a master's degree in Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, or a related degree. However, in other cases, the Doctoral Programme Academic Committee may assign specific additional coursework requirements adapted to the candidate's profile during the admission process.

Furthermore, candidates may request to take additional coursework that may be of interest to them with the Doctoral Programme Academic Committee, with the approval of their thesis supervisor. Additional coursework consists of subjects offered in the Ramon Llull University Master's Degree in Bioengineering or in other Master's programs taught at IQS that are deemed particularly relevant in terms of conducting their thesis project if the candidate has not completed approved studies beforehand. Additional coursework shall not exceed a maximum of 6 ECTS credits to be taken during the first year of the doctoral programme.
