When studying the IQS Master's in Bioengineering you will have four different laboratory spaces suitable for different experimental practices (IQS allocates a total of 8,300m2 of laboratory for academic activities).

Objectives of the Master's Degree in Bioengineering

This degree aims to train graduates interested in research or in the development and production of products, processes, and services using microorganisms or their biological components in the fields of industrial biotechnology and biomedicine. Our graduates are characterised by their:

Advanced knowledge in the different disciplines of biosciences (cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, bioinformatics, among others.)

Outstanding ability to use biotechnological tools (in genetics, metabolic engineering, bioreactors, and bioprocesses)

Knowledge of industrial sectors and trends in using biotechnologies and their engineering aspects

Characteristics of the Master's Degree

The features of this Master’s Degree include:

More than 50% of class time is allotted to applied classes held in the new laboratories of the recently built Bioengineering building. The labs are equipped with modern systems and equipment. Full-time professors specialising in the field are in charge of these hands-on sessions.

Renowned researchers and professionals from European and American institutions, who are members of the University senate, complement the programme with courses and seminars on topical issues.

In addition to research, the Master's programme connects with the needs of the industrial sector through a series of companies that act as consultants to the Master's Degree.

This relation with the industrial sector is defined by:

Professionals from domestic and foreign companies participating n the University senate

The opportunity to do the Master Thesis in companies (either in part or in whole)

Student access to IQS Professional Career Services Office, which offers advice to students during their job search

This Master's Degree is intended for graduate students who want to expand their career options or direct their professional careers towards new biotechnologies. After completing this Master's Degree graduates will be able to work as professionals in high-level research and innovation in the industry or they can develop their academic career by moving forward with doctoral studies.

Competences to be acquired

The different modules of the Master's Degree in Bioengineering will enable students to:

Develop the fundamentals and applications of cross-curricular technologies in the field of biotechnologies in various industrial sectors

Acquire knowledge in complementary matters that are important for professional development in the field of bioengineering (ethics and management)

Understand the different fields related to the use of biotechnological tools applied to a wide range of applications and industrial sectors

Carry out an individual research project, the final Master's project, within a research group under the supervision of a professor from the Master's programme.

The Master's Degree in Bioengineering will help students to increase the knowledge acquired at the undergraduate level and participate in the research, development, and production stages within industrial biotechnology and biomedicine.
