IQS has joined on to the Society of Jesus Safe Environment project (Entorno Seguro) which is supported and implemented across universities and colleges through UNIJES.

This project, promoted by Pope Francis, was initiated to encourage the creation of a safe environment and well-being for everyone. It aims to guarantee that all people are protected, especially individuals who may find themselves in vulnerable situations, throughout institutions associated with the Society of Jesus in Spain.

The Safe Environment project is based on the following pillars:

  • To create welcoming, respectful, and safe environments.
To promote treating people the way we wish to be treated.
To support the culture of protection and help and protect any minor or adult in a vulnerable situation (MAV).
To report any inappropriate practices or abusive behaviour.

What are we doing at IQS?

IQS has created a Safe Environment team that will work to fulfil the pillars listed above. The system establishes the role of a person leading the project at each centre. In our case, the person appointed as the Safe Environment Officer is Carlos Bel, Director of Human Resources.

To support him, a team has been created that includes various IQS staff members, with the aim of making it as broadly representative as possible:

  • Carlos Bel – Safe Environment Officer
Oriol Quintana – Head of Identity and Mission
Eduard Serra – IQS Security Manager
Ana Belén Cuenca – Dpt. of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (SE)
José Luis Sánchez – Dpt. of Business Management (SM)
Maria Serrat – IQS Tech Transfer
    Luisa Borondo – General Secretariat
Meritxell Soria – IQS Executive Education
    Eva Barreda – Human Resources

Risk map and action plan

The working team has analysed and identified possible risks of abuse to minors or adults in vulnerable situations (MAV) that could arise as part of the activities carried out at an educational institution.

The action plan is aimed at addressing these risks and fulfilling all the objectives that are part of the Safe Environment project. Over the next few months, different initiatives will be implemented that are already being worked on.

IQS is committed to achieving the implementation of this project in July 2021.
